Overview

A Char Dham trip in India typically refers to a pilgrimage to four sacred Hindu sites located in the Indian Himalayas. The four sites, collectively known as Char Dham, are:

Yamunotri: Located in the western Garhwal Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand, Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River. The main attraction here is the Yamunotri Temple dedicated to Goddess Yamuna.

Gangotri: Situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, Gangotri is the origin of the Ganges River. The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is the focal point of the pilgrimage.

Kedarnath: Nestled in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, Kedarnath is renowned for the Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located amidst stunning Himalayan peaks.

Badrinath: Located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Badrinath is home to the Badrinath Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites and is situated along the banks of the Alaknanda River.

These sites are traditionally visited in the sequence mentioned above, starting from Yamunotri and proceeding to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and finally, Badrinath. The Char Dham yatra is considered highly auspicious by Hindus, and thousands of devotees undertake this pilgrimage each year, seeking spiritual blessings and purification.

The journey involves significant travel through mountainous terrain, and pilgrims often encounter challenging weather conditions. However, the scenic beauty of the Himalayas and the spiritual significance of the sites make the Char Dham yatra a deeply rewarding experience for many. Pilgrims typically spend several days to a couple of weeks completing the entire circuit, depending on their travel arrangements and preferences.
